The Abdy family began 400 years of involvement in the steel and cutlery trade with the mastery of silver and pewter and was involved in the formation of the assay office and the setting of standard for silver. Even today William Abdy and William Abdy II (18th C) Silverware is prized and highly valued throughout the world.

Throughout the 20th century the family was involved in the tool industry and began steady growth from their Sheffield base as the Standard Jig and Tool company on Hereford St. The factory was destroyed by bombing during World War 2 and later reformed by Reginald Henry Abdy and has grown from strength to strength without losing its local Sheffield character and influences. The tool company continues to operate today in the heart of Sheffield’s Cultural Industries Quarter.

Georgina Abdy is passionate about continuing the silverware connection to her family’s history and promoting a Hand Made in Sheffield product alongside sustainable cutlery for future generations.  Having 3 daughters herself she wanted to show that by choosing classic and complete range designs products can be cared for and valued through generations reducing consumption and waste.
